Coronavirus (COVID-19) Latest News and Information

  • The following information was shared with SCM families on April 3, 2020.

    Dear SCM Family,

    We appreciate your ongoing patience and support as SCM staff at every level now shifts our focus to helping the school year end as smoothly as possible.  With 69% favorability, we will proceed with a schedule that has us continuing remote learning beginning next week and finishing the school year on May 20, 2020 (Option B).  Please see the full revised schedule below:

    Athletic Events & School Activities
    Sadly, all SCM activities are cancelled for the 2019-20 school year including, but not limited to, field trips, athletic events/practices, co-curricular events/practices.  Specific events, such as high school graduation, prom, the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C., and the spring musical will be decided at a later date. We will do our best to provide meaningful opportunities for students to reflect on their experience and create memories. More information will be communicated in the near future.

    Personal Belongings
    We understand that students were not able to retrieve their personal belongings from their classrooms, lockers, nurses offices, etc., before our closure on March 13, 2020.  Additional opportunities will be provided in accordance with guidance from the Governor’s Office and other agencies.  

    Academic Expectations
    We recognize that this is a challenging and demanding time for families. Many are trying to juggle remote learning with multiple children while also working from home. So it is important, now more than ever, for parents/guardians to please reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher and principal if you need help and support.

    • All students in K - 8 who make a good-faith attempt to complete remote learning and meet grade-level standards will advance to the next grade level as expected.
    • All students in grades 7 - 8 who are enrolled in high school credit bearing classes must complete remote learning in order to earn the high school credit.
    • Academic expectations for students in grades 9-12 are significantly more complex and require additional consideration. As such, guidance for Mishawaka High School students will be provided as soon as possible, but by no later than Tuesday, April 7, 2020. 

    I could not be more proud of the collective efforts of our staff and community during these challenging times. We are facing circumstances and experiences that none of us have ever faced. We recognize there are many questions that are not fully addressed here. Please be patient over the coming days and weeks as updates will be shared with you.

    As we work towards a smooth end to this school year, another year will begin, and we will emerge stronger and more committed than ever to the education of our children. #TheMishawakaWay means we are #INthistogether.
