Greetings and welcome to Fred J. Hums Elementary School.

Hums Elementary has a reputation of high expectations, a welcoming community, and a collaborative, safe learning environment. Our school community is dedicated to providing our students with a well-rounded educational experience.  We believe it is critical to provide our students with a well-balanced, rigorous curriculum, leadership opportunities, and exposure to technology to prepare our students to be successful in society. We continue to evolve our educational practices to match the fast-paced changes in education. The ability to adapt to new challenges puts our students in a positive position to be successful in and out of school. 

Together, our staff will equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to excel in a dynamic and evolving world.  We hold our students accountable by promoting our “Roadrunner” core values of being safe, respectful, responsible, and friendly and caring.  These values are embedded in our values connected to the Mishawaka Way. 

I am honored and privileged to serve the Hums community and the School City of Mishawaka.  I am in my 6th year at Hums and 17th year in education. I have two boys in the School City of Mishawaka system, Lucas (junior) and Maddux (freshman) at Mishawaka High School.
