National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

  • WHAT IS NAEP?
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do. The NAEP assessment stays essentially the same from year to year, with only carefully documented changes. This permits NAEP to provide a clear picture of student academic progress over time. NAEP’s transition into computer-based assessments, has not changed the uniform administration of the assessment. NAEP continues its importance as a common metric and will only administer paper and pencil testing in select schools to help with the transition to online.

NAEP is given every year in Indiana, however the subjects and grades can vary. Some subjects include mathematics, reading, science, writing, the arts, civics, economics, geography, U.S. history, and in Technology and Engineering Literacy (TEL).
