The following information was shared with SCM families on December 1, 2021:

Dear SCM Families,

We shared information with you on November 15, 2021 regarding potential mask mandate changes. Those changes were dependent on Governor Holcomb not extending the public health emergency beyond November 30. However, today the Governor extended the public health emergency to January 1, 2022 through Executive Order 21-31.

In addition to this extension of the public health emergency, we have seen an increase in positive COVID-19 cases throughout our schools in the past couple of weeks. You can view our COVID-19 data by visiting MishawakaSchools.com/COVIDDashboard. 

With the extension of the public health emergency, our legal requirement to follow control measures for contact tracing and quarantines, and our recent increase in COVID positive cases in our schools, School City of Mishawaka will continue with masks required for all students, staff, and guests while indoors, regardless of vaccination status. This also includes masks required at indoor athletic and fine arts events (i.e. choir concerts, band concerts, plays, etc.). Any student who rides an SCM school bus or Transpo will be required to continue wearing a mask that covers the nose and mouth while on the bus. 

The goal of continuing to require masks is to keep our students and employees healthy, to minimize the number of students and staff required to quarantine, and to keep our buildings open for in-person learning.
